Industry Overview

The technical and trade school industry is a $46 billion dollar per year sector. The for-profit education industry has grown exponentially in the past decade due to the shift in the U.S. economy from a manufacturing-based economy to a services-based economy.  This requires a workforce with a particular set of skills, and for training and re-training of the workforce due to the increase in the use of technology in the workplace. As a result, the for-profit education industry has gained amazing momentum.  Online tutoring services and test preparation schools have also experienced significant growth in demand. The for-profit education industry is fragmented; there are a large number of small schools that specialize in training students for a specific career or a group of related careers or trades.
